HIKING MOUNT LONGONOT
After we pick you up from your hotel, we start off immediately to the first place of attractions, and this is what awaits you;
As you travel from Nairobi towards Mount Longonot, shortly after Limuru area, you come across viewpoints. The floor of the Great Rift Valley can clearly be viewed from this points. From the same view point are stores selling beautiful souvenirs which could be either wood/stone carvings, belts made of leather and beads, traditionally made ear rings, hand bungles and many other ornamental items. It is a good idea to carry some extra money for this beauties.
Mount Longonot is 2,776 meters (9,108 feet) tall. It is an extinct volcano located in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, about 60 kilometres northwest of Nairobi. The mountain is a popular hiking destination, with a moderate to challenging trail that takes about 3-6 hours to complete. The hike offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside, including Lake Naivasha and the Rift Valley escarpment.
Here are some other details about Mount Longonot:
• The mountain is a stratovolcano, meaning it is made up of layers of ash, lava, and tephra.
• It last erupted in the 1860s.
• The mountain has a caldera, or collapsed crater, that is about 5 kilometres wide.
• The crater has a thick forest, which is home to a variety of wildlife, and birds.
If you are looking for a challenging hike with breath taking views, then Mount Longonot is the place. There is need to be prepared for the hike, it can be strenuous.
Mount longonot is also a national park and as such you could view some wildlife from your hiking trail .The species of wild animals to be seen here are, giraffes, warthogs, zebras, several species of antelopes and a considerable number of bird species.
After such a strenuous hike, it is only fair if we can retreat for a lunch break and refreshments before embarking to our next attraction.
LAKE NAIVASHA
Lake Naivasha is a large freshwater lake which sits just outside the town of Naivasha. It is Located in Nakuru County and Situated at an elevation of 1,884m ASL .The lake has a surface area of 139km².
The distance from Nairobi capital city to Lake Naivasha is 98km and the journey takes around 2.5.This Lake is famous for its high populations of hippos and flamingos. There are over 1,500 hippos.
Lake Naivasha is home to over 400 bird species. There is also a sizeable number of other wildlife that have this place for a home, Giraffes, zebras, impalas, waterbucks, grant’s gazelles, and Thomson’s gazelles and several others.
A boat trip on the lake is highly recommended.
Visit to lake Naivasha marks the end of the last leg of our trip and so we drive back to Nairobi at the place of your choice, either the airport , your hotel or
