The beginning of the trip
We will pick you from the airport, hotel or residence within Nairobi city at around 6.40 AM and take off immediately headed for Amboseli National park. We should be at the park by 10.30 Am. Registering our presence with our hotel as well as clearing with the park entrance office should take about 30 min after which we hit the road running starting our game drive.
Amboseli National Park
Amboseli National park is located 240 km from Nairobi. To get there you travel along the Nairobi/Arusha road through Namanga. You will enter the park through meshanani Gate.
Amboseli was originally established as a game reserve in 1948 and covered 1,259 square miles (3,261 square km) northwest of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Within it were distinguished seven habitats namely;
Open plains,
Acacia woodland,
Thorn bush country,
Swamp,
Marshland,
Amboseli lake bed and the
Slopes of Oldoinyo Orok.
The land in the reserve was home to the Maasai and their cattle cattles, historically.
In 1974 about 10 percent of the reserve was established as the Amboseli National Park, with an area of 392 square km.
Located on Lake Amboseli, which is , normally dry with a flat basin of alkaline soils, the park surrounds three of the original seven habitats: open plains, thorn bush country, and acacia woodland.
A considerable variety of wildlife inhabits the park. The wildlife found here includes, gerenuk, elephants, baboons, cheetahs, black rhinoceroses, hippopotamuses, lions, Maasai giraffes, buffalo, Oryx, impalas, and several other animals species.
Other attractions of the park includes opportunities to meet the Maasai people and also offers amazing views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.
A good number of bird species inhabits this great ecosystem.
The game drive should progress up to around 5.30 Pm. The Kenya wildlife service has directed that tourist must be out of the game park at exactly 6.00PM.We have to allow ourselves about half an hour to drive back to our hotel which is located within the expansive park.
In the second day, our game drive should commence not later than 8.00 Am. We will continue where we left the previous day until we are certain of seeing all that can be seen in this great wildlife ecosystem.
By around 1.00Pm, we definitely have 'conquered' and as such rewarding ourselves with some nice lunch before driving back to Nairobi, is a great idea.
In Nairobi, we will drop you off at the place of your choice as long as it is within the radius of 15 km from the city centre.
